Wilcox Auctioneers
Originally known for our service as antique auctioneers, we have branched out over the years to not only include antiques but handling all items of quality and interest, those found in prestige modern and contemporary homes.
Even though Wilcox Auctioneers specialises in home contents auctions, our approach is unique in that through our choice of only prestige homes and locations, music, snacks and refreshments, we try and create the atmosphere of a social event.
While our vendors appreciate having their items more suitably presented and buyers can see those items brought more to life, our main objective is still to obtain a successful result for both vendor and buyer.
Some of our major event auctions have been held for high profile clientele, including major Australian company directors, the Romanian Ambassador to Australia, as well as prominent Toorak law firm Kellus Kenny Lawyers, amongst others.
If you need to downsize, or are moving house, overseas or interstate, divorcing, having a change of décor or are dealing with a deceased estate, we will help to make the transition as stress free as possible.
With 20 years experience, the company prides itself on referral by reputation and professional service is a priority.
We are currently operating in the Melbourne metropolitan area, the Bayside area as well as interstate.
Why Wilcox?
We promote the auction event to our large mailing list of clients who are in and around the Melbourne, Bayside and Peninsula area. We also advertise in the Melbourne Weekly and other local publications to attract new attendees. The viewing days are Friday and Saturday with the auction on Sunday, usually starting at noon.
Wilcox Auctioneers holds two types of auction events, and only in prestige homes. The first is a home owner contents auction, (or estate auction) where all selected contents belong to the owner (or family) or resident vacating the home. The second is a vendor contents auction, where most or all of the contents come from a variety of vendors, some commercial and some private. In the second case all the contents are brought in and used to fully and appropriately furnish the home, creating a real “lived in†look and feel. Auction days themselves are complete with music, wine, champagne and sushi for all attendees.
The advantages of auctioning contents in the home as opposed to sending your items to a wholesale auction house or selling items one by one privately are a) it is proven that higher prices are generally achieved when buyers can see the items within appropriate aesthetic surroundings, and b) you have the opportunity to offload everything at one time, with the only cost to you being an agreed commission of the total sales of your items.
Another benefit is that through auction days, a large number of people will see the home fully furnished with high quality content, a much more attractive way to present a house for prospective buyers or leasers, stimulating more interest. In many cases we have helped connect suitable buyers to sellers, as we forward all enquiries that we get to the agent, or just by having house brochures on display during the auction.
